🤔 Questions arise about Berkshire Hathaway’s ability to replicate its historical success under new leadership (Greg Abel) after the era of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger.
🍎 Analysis reveals that Berkshire’s stellar returns over the past decades were significantly boosted by its large, successful investment in Apple; without it, performance would have lagged the market.
💡 Despite questions about future returns, the enduring value lies in the investment wisdom and common sense imparted by Buffett and Munger over the years.
@bernardodegarcia:
“What’s my opinion regarding Berkshire Hathaway? Well, I’ve read extensively about Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger, and I’ll continue to do so. I have no idea about Greg Abel, no idea where this guy comes from. I know he works in the energy sector, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, but beyond that, I don’t know how he thinks. My opinion is that finding Buffett and Manger, and them finding each other, was truly exceptional, and I think it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to replicate what they have done. And something very curious, ah, I don’t know if you’ve seen it talking about all this now, Berkshire Hathaway without Apple? Warren Buffett has had an annualized return of 20% over the last five decades. But what would his return be if he never invested in Apple? Well, that was the question, right? And the truth is, it would have lagged behind the market. Realize that there was a moment when Buffett had 50%. I mean, imagine 50% of your portfolio is one company. Well, Buffett had 50% in Apple, and Apple had exceptional performance, ah, well above the market. So, that helped him a lot. Otherwise, they would have fallen a bit behind, but regardless, it doesn’t matter. I’m not so interested in the return Buffett has had over the last 10 years, with or without Apple, as much as the amount of common sense and investment wisdom he imparts every time he speaks.”
