🤝 Nvidia is reportedly finalizing a deal to acquire Lepton AI, an AI startup specializing in renting servers equipped with Nvidia chips, for several hundred million dollars.

☁️ This acquisition, along with the recent purchase of synthetic data startup Gretel, aligns with Nvidia’s strategy to diversify beyond semiconductors into the cloud and enterprise software markets.

⚔️ The move potentially positions Nvidia in direct competition with major cloud service providers like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft, who are also significant customers of Nvidia’s chips.

@bernardodegarcia:
“We move to Nvidia, which is about to close a deal to acquire Lepton AI. Lepton AI is an AI startup, artificial intelligence, what a surprise, that rents servers with Nvidia chips. Very intelligent. It’s like a Bitcoin miner, so to speak. I buy the devices to mine Bitcoin, and then I rent them out to whoever wants to mine Bitcoin. Same thing, but with AI. I buy GPUs from Nvidia, and then I rent these GPUs to whoever wants to use them. Nice. The pick and shovel. The deal amounts to several hundred million dollars, according to The Information yesterday, citing anonymous sources. This acquisition aligns with Nvidia’s overall strategy to move slightly out of the semiconductor market and expand into the cloud and enterprise software market, which directly positions it in competition with major cloud service providers who are its clients: Amazon, Google, Microsoft. The AI giant reportedly also acquired the synthetic data startup Gretel last week.”
